Samsung: Tips if your Samsung device is overheating when charging

Some steps to follow if your Samsung device is overheating when charging.

Firstly, some basics

  •  Do not charge your device in direct sunlight
  • Do not cover the device whilst charging, this could include, for example, a sheet, a pillow, clothing or being in a pocket
  • Close all the apps running on your device, video/streaming etc.
  • Remove all third-party accessories, such as cases, fans, virtual reality headsets, or selfie sticks, could be causing your device to overheat due to the extra power drawn by the accessory or by retaining the heat your device gives off.

Once you have completed the above, please follow the steps below until your issue is resolve:

  1. Please use a different charging cable and plug
  2. Charge your device using a wall socket and then using a computer.  Does the device overheat using both methods?
  3. Check the battery usage
  • From the home screen, swipe either up or down to access apps
  • Select Settingsc
  • Select Battery and device care
  • Select Battery
  • Select Usage since last full charge From here you can see what applications and processes are using the most power. Is there a specific app (that you haven't had open) that is using more than 25% of your device's power?
  • Reboot your device
    • Press and hold the power and volume down buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds
    • Now that your device has been rebooted has it started to heat up yet
  • Check that you have the latest software version on your device
    • From the home screen, swipe down to access settings
    • Tap the settings icon
    • Tap Software updated
    • Tap Download and install
  • Start your device in 'Safe mode' and keep your device in safe mode for at least 2 hours.  If the issue isn’t occurring, then it’s being caused by a third app.  We don't have details for your exact device. The guidance below is a close match, but some menus or images may differ from your model
