If your iPhone runs low before the end of the day, first check where the charge is going. This guide takes you through the settings and charging habits to review on the phone itself. Battery life means the time between charges; battery lifespan means how long the battery remains useful before replacement.
Menu names and available features vary by model and iOS version. Use the matching option shown on your phone.
Check which apps use your charge
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Review the battery-use information and app activity shown for the available period.
- Look for activity you did not expect, especially background work from an app you barely used.
- Compare that activity with what you actually did before changing settings.
An app used for several hours can reasonably appear at the top. The highest percentage alone does not prove a fault.
Turn on Low Power Mode when you need more time
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Find Low Power Mode. If your model shows a Power Mode menu, open that first.
- Enable Low Power Mode when you need the remaining charge to last longer.
- Return to the same setting when you want to switch it off.
This limits selected features and background work, so some tasks and updates can take longer. Use it when that trade-off suits you.
Lower brightness to a comfortable level
- Open Control Centre.
- Find the brightness slider and lower it until the display remains comfortable to read.
- Review Settings > Notifications for apps that wake the screen unnecessarily.
- Reduce unhelpful alerts while keeping important notifications enabled.
You do not need to make the screen difficult to read. Aim to remove brightness and interruptions you do not need.
Review charging settings for battery lifespan
- Open Settings > Battery.
- On iPhone 15 and later, look for Charging. On iPhone 14 and earlier, look for Battery Health & Charging.
- Review Optimised Battery Charging, which learns your routine to reduce time spent fully charged.
- If your model offers Charge Limit, consider whether a lower limit fits your daily use.
A lower charge limit also leaves less charge available when you unplug. It is a battery-care choice, not a way to increase the amount of charge stored.
Keep the phone cool while charging
- Avoid charging in direct sunlight or leaving the phone in a hot car.
- Using or charging above 35°C can permanently shorten battery lifespan.
- Leave Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled for normal use; routinely switching them off is unnecessary.
Know when to arrange a battery assessment
If your iPhone displays a battery-service message, consider an assessment through Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider. A new cable or charger cannot reverse chemical ageing inside the battery.
Your quick battery checklist
- Check Battery settings before assuming an app is faulty.
- Use Low Power Mode when remaining charge matters.
- Reduce unnecessary brightness and notifications.
- Review charging options for your model.
- Avoid heat and act on a battery-service message.
